Dr. Jordan d'Eon grew up in the Acadian fishing village of Pubnico, Nova Scotia. He has had a strong interest in becoming a dentist since he was fourteen years old. As the first step to realizing this interest, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honors from St. Mary's University. After that he attended the Dalhousie Dental School, graduating top of his class with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2011.
He currently lives in Stratford and enjoys playing hockey in the winters, boating in the summers, and spending time with his wife and sons. After practicing for 5 years at Parkdale Dental, Dr. d’Eon and his wife Dr. Peters were excited to open at their new location, Gateway Dental!
Dr. d'Eon's patient care philosophy is simple: identify the problem, discuss the possible consequences and solutions, and let the patient decide what they would like to do.
Dr. Marla Peters grew up in Souris, Prince Edward Island where she graduated with the Governor General's medal for the highest academic standing. She then attended Mount Allison University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science with Honours while playing varsity hockey for the Mounties. Then she took a year off to travel the east coast of Australia before attending Dalhousie University where she graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009.
After graduation, Dr. Peters worked in Halifax for a year before moving back home where she associated for four years before assuming responsibility for Dr. Corrigan’s practice in 2014. Over the next two years, Dr. Peters and her husband Dr. d’Eon worked on building their new clinic which is now a reality - Gateway Dental!
Dr. Peters is very passionate about dentistry and enjoys keeping up to date through continuing education. Her goal is to provide her patients with exceptional oral health care by providing the highest quality dentistry in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
In her spare time, Marla enjoys spending time with her family, travel, playing hockey and boating.
Dr. Maureen Gowanlock grew up outside Halifax Nova Scotia. She received her Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University in 1975 and then entered Dental School at Dalhousie graduating in 1979 receiving the Greatest Proficiency in Clinical Dentistry and Orthodontic Awards.
She entered the Canadian Dental Officer Training Program in 1975 and her first posting after graduation was Shearwater in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At that time, she was one of only seven female military dentists in Canada. After her military commitment was finished, Dr. Gowanlock became a full-time faculty member of Dalhousie Dental School.
Dr. Gowanlock moved to Prince Edward Island and, with her husband, opened a dental practice in Hunter River in January 1988. It was a surprise and a great honour to discover she was the first woman dentist to practise on the Island.
In 2013, she gave up the business/ownership of a dental practice and became an associate dentist. She was very pleased to join Dr. Marla Peters and Dr. Jordan d'Eon in April 2015 and excited to share in the opening of Gateway Dental.
Dr. Melissa Cudmore was born and raised in the interior of British Columbia. She received her BSc in Biology from Burman University in Alberta and graduated from Loma Linda University school of dentistry in southern California in 2014. Melissa married an islander which motivated their move to PEI and she looks forward to making a home here and experiencing all that the East Coast has to offer.
Lois grew up on PEI and graduated from Dalhousie University 1979 with her Diploma in Dental Hygiene. She has worked all over Canada and the United States and continues to practice dental hygiene as she assumes the role of office manager at Gateway Dental. No job is too big or too small and you'll often find Lois organizing supplies, meeting with dental sales personal, working on the computer or buying flowers and birthday cakes for the staff.
"I love a challenge and office management supplies new ones everyday. I'm grateful for such a hardworking staff and a wonderful employer." In a big office like Gateway Dental, communication is key and Lois helps everything run smoothly.
Lois loves to travel, hike and finds time to take Pilates classes.
Mignon graduated from Holland College in 2002 with a diploma in Level II Dental Assisting. She also graduated from Oulton College in 2013 with a diploma in Dental Hygiene. She has been a part of the Gateway Dental team since 2014.
Mignon is proud to be a member of such a talented and dedicated team at Gateway Dental. She looks forward to helping all her patients achieve optimal oral health through personalized treatment planning and patient education.
Cheryl graduated with a diploma in dental hygiene from Dalhousie University in 1998 and a BSc from UPEI in 1993. She has been happily providing hygiene care to patients in this practice since 2000. Cheryl's main focus is to provide excellent hygiene services to her patients and to extend her knowledge in a positive manner to help her patients achieve excellent hygiene results and beautiful, healthy smiles. Cheryl prides herself at putting her patients at ease and making each visit an enjoyable one. She looks forward to helping you achieve your dental goals.
Alanna is an 'Islander' through and through! She graduated with a Bachelor in Science from University of Prince Edward Island in 2008 and a Diploma of Dental Hygiene from Dalhousie in 2011. Choosing dental hygiene as a profession was an easy choice, as she strongly believes in the holistic and preventative aspect of oral health for whole body health. She hopes to share she passion for this career to all her patients over the years to come!
Melissa is our newest team member and brings with her a wealth of experience from her years of working in the dental hygiene field. Having moved to the Island last year she is excited to get to know not only our patients but what the Island has to offer.
Born and raised in Charlottetown PEI, Holly enjoys the gentle way of Island living. After graduating from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2007, Holly took on various roles in the insurance and financial industries before settling down at Gateway Dental. She is passionate about ensuring our patients have an inviting and comfortable experience every time they walk through our doors. Holly is always available to answer questions, make appointments, and loves seeing our patients leave with a confident smile. In her free time she enjoys gardening, motocross riding, and entertaining for family and friends. Holly is also an avid animal rights supporter and volunteers with various non-profit organizations.
Born and raised on Prince Edward Island, Kelly completed the Dental Assisting program at Holland College in 2014. She has worked in the dental field since graduation and has been at Gateway Dental since 2016. Kelly likes to ensure all patients have a great overall experience from the moment they walk in the door to the time they checkout. In her spare time she enjoys outdoor activities, relaxing on the beach and spending time with family and friends.
Jacqueline grew up in Mt. Stewart, PEI and attended Morell High School. She graduated from the Office Systems Administrative Program at Holland College in 1997. She has been working in the dental field for almost 9 years, and joined Dr. Peters and Dr. d'Eon’s team in the summer of 2014. Jacqueline loves working in the dental field, meeting our patients and helping them with any questions or concerns they may have. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and watching her kids play sports.
Our dental assistant team is dedicated, compassionate and always working hard to make every patient feel well cared for. Susan, Sam, Shannon and Katie all hold Level 11 Dental Assisting Certificates and keep up to date with the changes in dentistry through continuing education. Recently they attended a full day training on sterilization and have put all required protocols in place at our office.
Collectively their experience is what makes Gateway Dental a great experience for our patients. Not only do they assist the dentist with patient care they also greet every patient with a smile, answer questions and give followup instructions. They take pride in their work and often are complimented by their patients and office manager for a job well done.
